The operating system written by Andrew S. Tannenbaum featured in his book, Operating Systems: Design and Implementation. The original Minix was designed in the late 1980s and targetted 8086-class PC systems. The second edition of the book brought us version 2 of Minix which ran on various systems, from the 8086 through the 286 and to the rest of the IA-32 architecture, as well as systems running on the Motorola 68000 series (such as the Atari ST and Amiga).
