PCI

Peripheral Component Interconnect. Originally designed by Intel, the PCI bus is a fast and flexible bus for 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. Various machine architectures use the PCI bus, not only PCs: PCI is also in use with the Apple PowerMac line and the Compaq Alpha machines. PCI allows true plug-and-play, since the resources assigned to each device can be programmed fully in software.
